We recently heard from Bike Friday owner Steve O. about his frequent travels to The Netherlands, here’s Steve to tell you more about it:
.
We fell in love with bike touring riding standard bikes in the Netherlands, a cyclist paradise.
And I fell in love with folding bikes on my local commute to office.
.
.
Clear road signage and cycle friendly trains are part of what makes the Netherlands ideal for cycling!
.
When I had the chance to spend a month cycling in the Netherlands on a work sabbatical a few years ago it just felt kind of unfair to leave my tikit at home while I went off to have a good time riding, so I did the right thing — packed my tikit (a Hyper-fold with Nexus 8 internal hub, modified with extra-large chainwheel and Northroad handlebars) and off we went. Had a great time!
.
.
One trip led to another, Tikit-envy sparked acquisition of her own Tikit by my spouse, release of the Silk with Alfine-11 and Gates Carbon drive led to augmenting our stable of Bike Friday machines, release of the pakiT is leading to another Alfine-11 / Gates Carbon addition in the next couple months. Funny how that happens. Can a person ever have too many bikes?

Had a fun time documenting the experience of several tours in a blog, http://footloosefietser.blogspot.com/
.
Our Bike Friday folders have been troopers. Zero mechanical problems, easy to take on trains when needed, conversation starters, companions in lots of great riding.
.
We’d love to return to Netherlands, and hopefully will, but are thinking now about a possible Silk + pakiT tour in Cuba… and a nice ride along the SF Bay trail this weekend.
.
Thank you to the Bike Friday team!

I agree. I rode my new World Tourist in the Netherlands in 2018 and 2019 and I cannot think of a better place to tour on a bike. Great bike paths and hotels and bed and breakfasts everywhere. In 2019 I set up my bike at the airport and rode away. In 2019 I rode from Amsterdam to Copenhagen. Germany and Denmark were very good for bike touring however the Netherlands remains the best.
