The Pocket Rocket Further takes Bike Friday’s award-winning Pocket Rocket and turns it from the ultimate traveling road bike into a gravel machine — ready to eat up the rough stuff wherever you are in the world.

Gravel riding grew from a natural desire to stray from the beaten path, escape the traffic, and explore what’s out there. The Further is the first Bike Friday designed for gravel from the start, with every modification made specifically for the job.

A widened fork clears tires up to 1.6″, opening the door to gravel roads and backcountry routes while maintaining the benafits of a road bike feel.  We took what we learned from over 30 years and thousands of Pocket Rocket customers trips and added six new features to design this new bike— hydraulic disc brakes, flat mount calipers, thru-axles, replaceable dropouts, clearance for tires up to 1.6 in and a UDH hanger. We also kept focused on including universal standards, the ability to be serviceable anywhere in the world for decades to come.

And because it’s a Bike Friday, the Further does something no other gravel bike can: it folds for travel. Which matters, because gravel isn’t just one thing — there’s Kansas flint, Tuscan white road, Icelandic lava, Oregon forest-service chunk — and most of it is nowhere near your house. The Further helps you go collect them all!

Hand-built in Eugene and custom-fit to your measurements, the Further packs into an airline-checkable suitcase. No oversize fees, no rental-bike compromise, no leaving your custom fit at home.

Rear Rack:

Our rear rack takes standard panniers, has a 55-pound weight limit, and has plenty of clearance under the rack for use with the Bike Friday Under-bag. And it packs flat to easily fit in a suitcase with the bike.

Front Rack:

Fits standard panniers. Rated for 25lbs each side. A must for a properly weighted touring bike for best front/rear weight balance and ride control. And it packs flat to easily fit in a suitcase with the bike.

Travel Case:

The Pocket Rocket Further packs into the same Samsonite travel case for airline travel that all Bike Fridays pack into. We include a full set of packing materials to protect the bike while in transit.

All felt packing bags and blankets are made from Eco-Fi fleece, a product made of 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

 

Soft Travel Bag:

The updated travel bag is now 10 inches wider to fit larger frames and tire sizes, features side cinch straps and stuffs into its own pocket. The Bike Friday Travel Bag allows you to easily carry or store your Bike Friday. Quick-fold your bike, fit it into its durable bag, and zip up! Black nylon coated pack fabric. Two sturdy woven handles and an adjustable shoulder strap allow you to carry your bike onto the bus, train or elevator with ease. A good way to keep it protected in the trunk of your vehicle too. Fits all single Bike Fridays. Wt: 672 grams. Rolls up to 4 1/2″ diameter, 14″ long. Proudly made here in Eugene, Oregon.

We have a strong warranty on our frames against defects in material and/or workmanship for 10 years. Warranty is non-transferable. Bicycle components (excluding tires, chain, cables, etc.) generally have a 1-year limited warranty. CLICK HERE for full warranty information.

Drivetrain Options

This page offers two different drive-train options. However there are other component group options available by contacting us and getting a free consultation with a Bike Friday expert.
Wheels

451mm double wall rims, Thru Axle Hubs ( Front 12×100, Rear 12×142), Tires are 1-1/8" with presta valve tubes, and clearance for up to 1.6".
Brakes

Flat Mount Disc brake with choice of Hydraulic or Mechanical depending on your component group choice.
Handlebars

We offer drop bars with several widths available. A split handlebar is available and recommended for packing in a suitcase. If you have a specific drop-bar style or width you want please write a note in your order or contact our bike experts and they will insure your specific choice is added to your order.

We utilize a powder coat painting process that results in a high durability paint that lasts a long time and has low toxicity through the whole process. Did you know our first few Bike Fridays are still out and about in the world over 33 years later?

These special coats require extra time and care to get right, with some also requiring two baking cycles, with the booth needing to be cleaned out in between paints to avoid cross-contamination

Most bikes come in only a handful of sizes, but your body is unique. Your bike should be built the same way.

Your Bike Friday frame is Cut and welded to your exact measurements, not adapted from a generic size. We build bikes for riders across the full size spectrum – from very short riders (with inseam as short as 16 inches) to professional NBA players (6 foot 6 inches) – and we make the process as straightforward as possible.
