Crowdfunding Success!

We couldn’t have done this without you!

Our StartEngine campaign just came to a close, and what a success! Over $220K was raised through investments and we’ve begun implementing key improvements already- Woo Hoo! We continue to be amazed and humbled by the incredible support for Bike Friday’s mission. To everyone who supported our campaign- thank you! Because you believe in us and the wonderful things that we offer the world we now have the opportunity to expand a grow our business in ways not previously possible.

Here’s what happens next!

With the Working Capital from this campaign we will begin (and already have begun) making many valuable improvements to our business:

  • Utilizing the slow season to build popular bikes into inventory for peak demand
  • Purchasing materials in larger quantities to get better margins
  • Ramping up our R&D of a variety of e-assist options, available for sale or retrofit onto existing Bike Fridays
  • Hiring additional engineering and sales staff
  • Expansion of new income streams like consignment, leasing, and rental
  • Partnering with Big Box retailers like REI, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and West Marine

Stay tuned for more updates!

We have some exciting news to share with you about the progress of our e-assist options, but we’re not quite ready to unveil it. We’ll keep you posted on the developments as they “unfold.”

Thank you again to everyone who invested or helped to spread the word about our investment campaign.  We are just so grateful (and excited) to be able to jump in and start making these big improvements here at Bike Friday!

Happy Cycling,

  1. I hope you took notice of Dahon’s new Curl. Not the fold, but the weight capacity. It is ironic that i just invested in Bike Friday, but chose a Curl over a Haul A Day because it properly filled my needs. Just something to ponder.

    1. Hi Joe,

Thank you so much for investing in Bike Friday! We’re glad that you support the mission of the company, and we’re looking forward to working with you as a part owner of Bike Friday. Thanks for pointing out the Curl, we’ve taken a look at it and noticed that it does have some nice features, we’re a little confused about your comment on the weight capacity, however. The Haul-a-Day, which starts at 33 lbs., can carry up to 420 lbs of combined rider and cargo weight, whereas the Curl (which weighs 27.6 lbs.) can carry only a max of 286 lbs. combined rider and cargo weight. As far as we can tell from the information on Dahon’s Kickstarter, the Haul-a-Day only weighs 6 pounds more, but can carry up to 134 lbs more than the Curl. Is there something that we missed?

  2. Congratulations!
We in Jakarta would like to see if you can continue (no no to discontinue) Tikit – “tikit or live it”

  3. Any chance you will go back and try to create a good folding stem that can be retrofitted to both the 20″ BF and the PakiT for those who want it? I know the first one had issues, but not having any loose parts is really helpful for multi-modal commuting. Even the snap-on PakiT stem is less than ideal. Pretty much every decent folding bike out there has a folding stem. You guys are so smart I know you can come up with something brilliant. And just imagine … once we power up our BF and go to fold them, we’ve got the batteries to carry so a fully attached system would be that much easier.
