Bike Fridays last long enough for 3 generations of riders now! Adult grandchildren now ride their Grandparents Bike Fridays.  The used bike market shows Bike Friday re-sale value staying shockingly high after decades. What makes Bike Fridays last decades?

From the beginning (1992) we have been committed to making environmentally benign decisions in our choices of the products we make, the materials we use and the processes with which we manufacture. This resulted in Bike Fridays built to last with impressive longevity in value and usability.

The commitment to these values is reflected in the materials we use and the way we take custom orders first and build only what people want second as well as the after delivery service support we offer.

Materials We Use: Repairable and Recyclable

Chromoly Steel bike frames do a wonderful job of being strong and light, durable, repairable around the world and at the very end of usability it’s recyclable.

Powdercoat paint is a great combination of a highly durable finish with low toxicity material and process, Having zero volatile composition and with the waste able to be baked into a block inert enough to safely dispose in the landfill.

Design Choices: Maintainable, Upgradable, High value for your dollar

We aim to design bikes that truly fit the customers size and use needs as well as being able to use accessories that allow multiuses. We design our bikes around readily available component standards and non-proprietary parts, ensuring they can be serviced, repaired, and maintained long into the future. By avoiding proprietary systems that tie a bike’s lifespan to a single supplier or short-lived standard, we help prevent otherwise sound bikes from becoming obsolete. This approach supports long-term ownership, reduces unnecessary waste, and keeps our bikes on the road for as long as they’re wanted and needed.

Manufacturing Choices: Reduce Waste, Built to Last

We use many Just-In-Time Manufacturing processes in order to hand build each customer’s order from beginning to end, just as they ordered it. Avoiding any waste from forecasted pre-built bikes that no one ends up wanting. This built Just-In-Time process also allows for shorter improvement cycles and smaller reject material waste.

After Delivery Service Support: Maintainable, Upgradable, Repairable

We have a knowledgeable customer service department that can repair and replace damaged frame parts, build new sized stems, re-paint old frames, offer replacement wheel sets and more. Keeping the bike on the road for generations.

Pre-loved Bike Program: Re-usable, Recyclable

We have an unusual trade-in program that allows a customer to trade in an older Bike Friday and get credit towards a new Bike Friday. We then refurbish the old Bike Friday and re-sell it with a new 10 year frame warranty.

We are very proud to see bikes built 30+ years ago still being ridden and enjoyed today. Almost weekly, we hear from people inquiring about a “new-to-them” original Bike Friday Sport, the original Bike Friday model, handed down by a grandparent or picked up through a local marketplace listing. Here are some examples of customers who responded to our 2026 survey still enjoying their trusty companions after decades of hard use.
