We have developed a lightweight, reliable, e-assist system using non-proprietary parts for serviceability. The motor replaces the front hub with a hub motor optimized specially for our 20-inch and 16-inch wheel sizes.
Overview
- This is a “class one” pedal assist only, so there is no electric assist without pedaling. Max assisted speed 20mph. (these are key for many regional laws)
- The standard batteries we use are 36 volt with a capacity of 450 watt hours. Estimated mileage in optimal conditions is 40-50 miles per charge
- Also compatible with LIGO 10X battery upgrade (only battery you can fly by air with your bike)
- Whole kit adds only ~11lbs to your Bike Friday
- E-assist kit can be retrofitted on any Bike Friday. You can also take off most of the weight by removing the battery and installing a standard front hub wheel to ride un-assisted when every you wish.

- Equipped with a clutch, which means no resistance when not using the electric assist

It takes only 30 seconds to fold down and fit into a car trunk. It can also pack into an airline-checkable suitcase (minus battery, although you might be able to hire one at the far end), making it capable of global adventures or simple storage. With its super low resistance, it can be ridden just like any other bicycle.
We chose to equip a Bosch System for their long-term reliability, generous warranty, and global serviceability (Take it to a dealer, they plug it in and it tells them what to do. Piece of cake.
