Value and affordability

So, you’ve got your eye on a Bike Friday but you’re trying to sort out what works for your budget.

It’s good for you to know that we only want to build a bike that fits your needs and plans. Truly. We offer a 30 day money back guarantee because we are confident that we build great value for your budget. But if we can’t fit your needs into your budget, then it’s best we don’t build you a bike. We want you to feel good about your decision either way.

Below are several resources and options to help your Bike Friday dreams fit your budget.

The true value of a Bike Friday

Bike Friday sits in a bit of a unique spot. Not many companies are still hand-building custom bikes, and certainly not at the scale we manage. If you went looking for another true one-off hand made bike somewhere else, you’d probably be looking at something north of ten thousand dollars.

We’ve always believed our bikes should offer real value. They hold up to serious use, hold their worth, and most importantly, they fit the rider properly. We’ve done our best to keep prices steady year after year, because we want anyone who cares about riding to be able to get a bike that suits them and not just those with the biggest wallets.

Important Budgeting Considerations

Let’s talk about budgeting. You may already have a figure in mind, or perhaps you haven’t gotten that far yet. Either way, there are some important factors you might not have calculated into your costings. We have three blogs that can help to understand what your budget will allow for.

Inventory & Pre-loved Bikes

Our inventory bikes either come new (when we have spaces to fill in our production line) or pre-loved, when a customer has sent us their old bike for a trade-in, we give it a thorough service/ restoration, list it on our website for sale with a new 10-year frame warranty. A bit of luck is involved in finding a bike that is the right fit and model but the price is less than a new custom build and they are ready to ship in 2-3weeks.

This is a good way of ensuring we keep Bike Friday’s on the road, and offering returning customers the opportunity for a trade-in towards a new bike, something you may also like to consider.

Frame Kits

A fun and hands-on way to get started, a good option for people with some fundamental bike mechanical knowledge, basic tools, and a can-do attitude.

  • Reuse what you’ve got – Build your dream bike around the trusted parts you already own, saving money by not buying everything new.

  • Start for less – Framekits offer a lower upfront cost, letting you spread out your spending and build at your own pace.

  • Ship smart – A smaller, lighter shipping box translates into real savings on shipping fees.

  • Lower import costs – For riders outside the USA, framekits often come with reduced import duties compared to complete bikes.

  • DIY value – Building it yourself is not only fun, it can also save on labor costs while giving you a personalized project.

  • Custom fit without compromise – Even at a lower price, every framekit is still cut and welded to your size, color, and riding style.

We have recently expanded our range of Frame Kits to include the Pocket Rocket, New World Tourist, Diamond Llama, and All-Packa Bikes. Just visit the bike page and select Frame Kit!
