Do you need travel cases?

Travel Case with Trailer Info:

The Bike Friday Travel Trailer includes everything you need to make your Travel case into a tow-ready trailer. The system includes the aluminum trailer frame, two wheels, protective socks for packaging and one reflective flag and thumb nuts to connect your travel suitcase. Also included an axle hitch and air nipple.

Every Bike Friday needs a way for the trailer connection to attach to the bike. Many of our bikes have a left chainstay braze-on to hold an air nipple which quick-connects to the trailer. <br>

The trailer package also comes with a rear hub axle mounted hitch. This hitch can be used in place of a bike-specific hitch, or as a connection method on another bike so you can swap your trailer system quickly to another bike. There is a male air nipple included as well (integrated into the axle hitch).

Two 12″ pneumatic wheels are included with all attachment hardware and a neon reflective triangle. Just add a Travel case and get on the road.

The gross weight limit for the trailer is 75 pounds. This includes the weight of the trailer (6.7lbs/2.95 kg) and average case weight is 13lbs so the total capacity for your gear is 55lbs.

All felt packing bags and blankets are made from Eco-Fi fleece, a 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles which aligns with our mission greatly.

Want to add E-Assist with your Two’sDay?

E-Assist is truly an amazing upgrade to this already wonderful bike.  It’s like adding a third rider who has the power of 10 horses on the back of your bike.  It’s not cheating as you still have to pedal exactly like you always have but now instead of having an average speed of 12-15mph, you are going 18-23mph.  It really is great and such a perfect upgrade for a tandem bike.

Rear Hub Motor:

This is another internationally popular system that we are introducing on our bikes! We believe it will be equally popular with our customers because of the unique features it offers. This system packs easily and pairs well without Ligo batteries making it an ideal setup for travelers!

Strengths:

  • Is similar to the front hub motor kit but also has an 8,9,10 spd cassette driver. This allows it to work with all rear dérailleurs.
  • No motor resistance
  • Fits all 20” wheels (406mm & 451mm)
  • Very light! Adds only ~ 11 lbs to your bike
  • Ligo* travel battery option makes for a light electric-assist bike that is legal to fly with. (*LiGo batteries are unavailable until Fall 2022 due to chip shortage)
  • Very Quiet!
  • Easiest to pack into the suitcase for air travel.
  • Disc brake compatible (except Avid’s)

Limitations:

  • Rear frame dropouts on a bike need to be sized to 137mm – 140mm (wider than usual)

Front Hub Motor:

Strengths:

  • With a second front wheel and 3 minutes you can take off all but one lb of the weight (removing motor and battery) and have your light non-assisted bike ready to ride
  • No motor resistance when coasting or riding without power
  • Fits both 20-inch wheel and 16-inch wheel Bike Fridays
  • LiGo* travel battery upgrade option available (as seen in the picture above)(*LiGo batteries are unavailable until Fall 2022 due to chip shortage)
  • Comes standard with pedal assist

Limitations:

  • Puts weight in front of the bike which isn’t natural to everyone.

Hi a couple of questions pls. In terms of twitchiness is there any noticeable difference between your 2 tandems? What about weight between the two? Just how much do these typically rigged out ready to ride, weigh, but without paniers.
How much time to fold the Tandem Twosday approx. From say a touring perspective, the ready opportunity to be able to fold the Twosday and then store with you, say in room, rather than having to store, secure and hope its all there in the morning could be a major benefit, but what are the disadvantages of the Twosday over the Family?

Nope, they are essentially the same tandem, though the TwosDay *also* can fold in addition to just disassembling. Surprisingly, the weight difference is negligible between the frames, but the weight can vary greatly on parts used. Disassembling to pack in the suitcase might take 20 minutes, but more like 2 to fold it.

Any chance you will move to a 1×11 or 1×12 transmission in the future? I just converted my mountain bike and added the single SRAM twist shifter and would never go back.

    1. How powerful are the e-assist hubs in terms of wattage? We will be pulling a dog and a kid with a trailer and saddlebags full of stuff up hills.
    2. How much capacity is there in each battery?
    3. Is the bike still airline friendly if we opt for both the front and rear hub motors on one bike?
    4. Will we still have room to attach a trailer with the rear hub motor attached?
    5. Can we build it so that it can accept the hub motors now but actually order the motor/motors a number of years into the future?
    6. It looks like 20 inches is the maximum diameter for wheels on this bike and still have it be foldable. What is the maximum allowable width? Being able to drive on sand/snow would be nice but not absolutely essential…

You’ve got me very excited here! I’ve been looking for an electric, tandem bike that I can transport with a Chevy Malibu for a couple of years now (on and off) and this looks about perfect! I’ll just have to start saving up to place an order…!

      Ethan:

      1. 250W.
      2. Each of the LiGo battery modules is 98Wh, so the pack of 4 we usually include with the tandems is just under 400Wh.
      3. I wouldn’t recommend doing front and rear motors (also, these days we’re mostly just doing fronts). We’ve never done it, so it’s a big unknown, and, as such, carries a high degree of risk. In theory, the extra 5 pounds shouldn’t be an issue with the airlines.
      4. The trailer will work regardless of what’s going on with the rear hub.
      5. You can add an e-assist to any Bike Friday, new or old. The bike just needs to come back to the factory.
      6. 2.1″.

Let me know how else I can help (and feel free to email me directly)!
