I wasn't a cyclist until in my 40's when I decided to take the plunge and bought a SatRDay recumbent. At the time I was teaching Japanese at the U of Oregon and driving a mile each way to work. Commuting by bike never occured to me. When I got a research grant to go to Japan, I took along my SatRDay and toured Hokkaido, Mt. Fuji and Tokyo and loved every minute of it! I also rode with many passionate Bike Friday riders in Japan.

When I became “Bike Friday's ambassador to Asia” in 2003, I got a Pocket Crusoe for commuting and then a Pocket Rocket Pro to keep up with the BF lunch ride (Every weekday at 12:00--join us!) and club rides. To meet Green Gear Cycling's challenge to "get to work under your own power," now I commute 10 miles roundtrip on my 9-speed Express tikit!

JAPAN CYCLE TOURS
Interested in cycle touring Japan, but not sure how? Join a Japan cycle tour! -- In 2006, 10 U.S. and Australian BF riders rode 500km in the north island of Hokkaido and visited Tokyo. In 2007 we explored Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Kyoto and Nara  with Japanese Bike Friday riders.The 2008 tour combined Hokkaido with ancient Kyoto and Nara.
