wasted space

It looks like there is quite a big of wasted space between the wheels when folded. Is there any way to make the wheels come closer together?

Also, seems like the pedals (well at least one of the pedals) protrudes a bit. Any chance of making that a folding pedal?

space

The space between the wheels is required for clearance between the fork and derailleur. It is designed to allow folding in any gear. It also allows room for the saddle at any seat height - we had to allow space for those who will have their saddle at such a height that the nose would hit the front brake (thus negating the ability to roll the bike) when folded. The clearance becomes a particular issue on the small size tikit where the wheels are right next to each other when folded - designing this bike in sizes was a big challenge; which is perhaps why everyone else does the 'one size fits all' thing. We'd rather have a bike that fits the individual, and can be folded without having to adjust the set seat and handlebar heights.
Both pedals fold.

no derailleur

I see how the extra space is necessary for the derailleur, but what about those of us that run fixed or internal hub gears?

Regarding the front brake, I would be willing to use a front disc/drum brake or a noseless saddle if it meant I could reduce the folded dimension by 3-4 inches.

Hopefully you guys will figure out a way to allow this spacing between the wheels to be customized as well.

Alternatively, perhaps it might be possible to offer both right and left folding handlebar stems, with the latter folding between the wheels for those without derailleurs? Or maybe a short seatpost with a noseless saddle combined with the lack of a derailleur would provide enough room for a left front pannier?

I would be happy with any of these options, I just don't want to pay a space penalty for a derailleur I'm not going to have.
