Back in 1992 I read about Bike Friday in AVIATION CONSUMER and decided that it was the bike for me, just the thing to stow in the back of my Cessna Skyhawk for getting into town whenever I landed at a remote airport. I ordered a Bike Friday Companion and received serial number 115. I liked it so much that I purchased three more over the years. I convinced a commercial pilot friend of mine to buy one, and the two of us have since ridden ours in Bike New York, RAGRAI, the StP (Seattle to Portland), and Cycle Oregon. This summer my wife and I happened to be in Paris when Lance Armstrong won his fifth straight Tour de France. Only the night before, I learned that there was a "Tour de Paris" fun ride scheduled for the morning when the professional cyclists would be returning to Paris. I joined the fun ride on my Bike Friday as an interloper and reveled in riding through the city without being bothered by vehicular traffic or traffic lights. Just as I was riding down the Champs Elysees toward the finish line and chuckling to myself that I could boast of being the fastest folding bicycle rider on the ride because I was the only folding bicycle rider on the ride, I noticed another Bike Friday coming up the Champs Elysees some distance behind me.
