GREAT DAY RIDES Centuries, metric centuries and a pedal around the block NY, New York City: 5 Boro Bike Tour, May, $40+, 42 miles, 30,000+ riders, easy and flat. Ride Manhattan and surrounds without a cab breathing down your neck. Take your own food - snacks have been getting less imaginative each year. NY, Westchester: Golden Apple Century, mid-September, Westchester Cycling Club. With a reputation for being all riding and no stopping, this great ride nonetheless features 25-125 mile options and GREAT FOOD. NY: Long Island: Montauk Century, 5 Boro Bike Club, May, 65-145 miles. A very popular annual ride with locals, more formal than Bike Boat Bike but similar GREAT SCENERY. |
GREAT WEEKEND RIDES Short weekend, long weekend AUSTRALIA: Australian Bike Friday Club Annual Gathering, easy and social 4-day trip every year since 1997. Low cost. IA, Indiana, Hilly Hundred, Central Indiana Bike Club, October, an almost RAGBRAI-like fanaticism surrounds this hilly, 5,500 rider weekend with GREAT FOOD. OR, Sutherlin: Sutherlin Memorial Weekend Tour, May, a low-cost, easy, casual weekend just an hour's drive south of Eugene, home of Bike Friday. Small group of around 15-25. GREAT SCENERY AND CAMARADERIE. |

IA: Ride Across Iowa RAGBRAI July, $125+, 70 miles/day, 10,000+ riders, moderate, camping or indoor, the most un-uptight bike ride on the planet, corn, pork chops, berry pies galore, 30+ year heritage. IL: Illinois Great Rivers Ride, September, 300 cyclists, customer Wayne Favre, a bike tour guide himself, said "it is the best supported bike ride I have ever done - if you only do one supported bike ride in your life this is the one to do." GREAT RECOMMENDATION. LA, Lousiana, Cycle Zydeco, March, a 4-day annual Cajun/Creole Food and Cycling Festival featuring the food and music that has made this part of South Louisiana famous. GREAT CULTURAL EXPERIENCE. NY State, Bon Ton Roulet, or "Let The Good Times Roll," July, is seven-day voyage throughout the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York State by bicycle. GREAT FOOD.
